The
Secrets of
SeeDEGA
WHAT IS CAGED? It's a fact: there are five basic
moveable chord forms that can be "linked" along the guitar
fret board so that each chord form produces the
same chord tone. The sequence order of chord forms
that does the trick is C-A-G-E-D. "CAGED" is easy to
remember--and that's what makes it a powerful memory tool.
The illustration below (fig. 1) shows how the
CAGED sequence works. It’s important to understand that while the
illustration presents five different chord forms,
they will all produce the same chord tone (C Major
in this case) when played at the fret positions shown. Try it
and see...
Note that adjacent forms along the fret board
share ”overlapping” tones. These are the fingering
positions that "link" to the next chord form in the sequence
along the neck.
Does CAGED always
have to start with C?
NO! Understand that the CAGED sequence modulates.
This just means that if one were to begin with any of the five basic
closed chord forms, the CAGED sequence could then be used to determine
the next form(s) along the neck that produces the same music tone.
For example, play an E-form chord
somewhere on the neck. What's the next form up the neck that
can be used to produce the same tone?
Easy: a D-form chord. Just recall that in the CAGED sequence,
E is followed by D.

Fig. 1
CAGED
is a highly useful memory tool. Using it, the guitarist can
quickly find different instances of the same chord tone along the fret
board. But CAGED represents only one aspect of the way chord
forms can be used to remember/conceptualize the fret board.
While useful, the CAGED sequence conveys no information about finding
sets of music key chords.
That's where SeeDEGA comes in...
WHAT IS
SeeDEGA?
SeeDEGA is a memory tool, like CAGED. But SeeDEGA does
something quite different.
SeeDEGA is the memory tool that can
help guitarists easily locate
entire sets of music key chords at a given fret position area.
And it does it using the same five basic chord forms used by CAGED.
Believe it or not, while people have known about
the CAGED memory tool for many years, the SeeDEGA sequence
has never been detailed in any book before Joe Doran's The
SeeDEGA Method. The fact is, there are
thousands of websites and many books that have outlined the CAGED
sequence. But SeeDEGA is truly new, incredibly simple--and
incredibly, overlooked as a powerful fretboard secret. Until
now.
